3D corrective osteotomy of malunited upper limb fractures

چکیده
Introduction Corrective osteotomy for malunited fractures of the upper extremity remains a challenging procedure. Anatomical correction is the key to good clinical outcome after corrective osteotomy for malunited fractures, especially in cases of the upper extremity. To make a precise deformity correction in malunion, we have developed a computer-assisted system for corrective surgery, including a three-dimensional (3-D) program and a patient specific instrument (PMI), and investigated the results of corrective surgery for malunited fractures of the distal radius (MFRD), forearm diaphyses (MFFD) and distal humerus (cubitus varus deformity: CVD) with the use of this technology.

Computer-assisted 3D planned corrective osteotomies in eight malunited radius fractures
In corrective osteotomy of the radius, detailed preoperative planning is essential to optimising functional outcome. However, complex malunions are not completely addressed with conventional preoperative planning. Computer-assisted preoperative planning may optimise the results of corrective osteotomy of the radius. We analysed the pre- and postoperative radiological result of computer-assisted...
متن کاملThree-dimensional virtual planning of corrective osteotomies of distal radius malunions: a systematic review and meta-analysis
The purpose of this study was to summarize and evaluate results of three-dimensional (3D-) planned corrective osteotomies of malunited distal radius fractures. 3D-planning techniques provide the possibility to address 3D-deformity that conventional planning methods might not address. We systematically searched PubMed, EMBASE and the Cochrane library for studies that performed a 3D-planned corre...
متن کاملTilt of the Radius from Forearm Rotational Axis Reliably Predicts Rotational Improvement after Corrective Osteotomy for Malunited Forearm Fractures
Forearm rotation occurs around an axis connecting the center of the radial head and the fovea of the distal ulna. The purpose of the present study was to demonstrate the usefulness of the difference between forearm and proximal radial axis in the treatment of malunited forearm fractures. We reviewed the results of eight corrective osteotomies for malunited fractures of the forearm without dislo...
متن کاملIntra-articular corrective osteotomy for malunited Hoffa fracture: A case report
Hoffa fracture, an isolated coronal plane fracture of the posterior aspect of the femoral condyle, is known as an unstable, intra-articular fracture, and therefore, operative treatment is recommended. However, insufficient open reduction or failure of fixation may lead to malunion. We performed intra-articular corrective osteotomy for a malunited Hoffa fracture in a 31-year-old man and obtained...
متن کاملCase studies using 3D technologies for corrective osteotomies : synergy between engineer and surgeon
Three-dimensional (3D) visualization, surgical pre-planning, and 3D printing or additive manufacturing of patient specific instruments and implants are fast gaining attention in the medical world. Already widely used in cranio-maxillofacial, dental, and total knee replacement surgery, 3D technologies are now starting to create a trend in the upper limb region too. A crucial step in establishing...
